The Power of Distance Reiki

Within the system of Reiki is a technique known as Distant Reiki and it is often misunderstood. Offering Reiki when you are in a different room, a different state or even another country doesn’t make sense in the physical plane. The answer lies in the energetic plane.

When we use the tools of Reiki, we are able to go inward and remember that we are all connected. We are all one. There is no separation. In other words, distance is only one plane of existence, one that is most easily perceived by our human senses. When offering distant healing, in reality we are really just accessing our innate connection to each other, our “Oneness,” and offering Reiki in that connected space.

Distant healing is very effective and in some cases, it can be a better option than hands on sessions. Animals that are extremely fearful, wild or feral, old and fragile, or close to death, may be better able to relax and accept the Reiki when the practitioner is not present.

Another advantage to distant Reiki is that it is quick to schedule and it doesn’t require travel. In an emergency, it is often possible to schedule a session immediately. Distant Reiki is great to add in between regular weekly sessions in order to support the Hands On sessions.

Distant Reiki offers the same benefits as Hands On Reiki.

  • Supports the animals physical, emotional and spiritual levels
  • Provides pain relief
  • Accelerates healing from surgery
  • Promotes wellness
  • Recovery from illness
  • Creates a peaceful space for the transition of death.

When working with animals, Distance Reiki often leads to Hands-On Reiki. Even during an on site session, it is best to begin at a distance and let the animal approach and ask for hands on. This allows the animal time to get used to the energy being offered and decided if, or how much, they want to accept.

I was working with a horse that had been used in rodeos and now suffered from arthritis. I began offering Reiki from a distance and soon the horse walked up and put his head in my hands. We stood that way for a short while until he moved away and walked to the opposite side of the corral. I waited before ending the session because animals often move in and out of the flow of Reiki. Suddenly he began to walk backwards to me. He continued to walk backwards until his back hips met my hands. He showed me exactly where he wanted hands on healing, but it all began from a distance.
